The College Visit in a Pandemic

Typically, summer is a very busy time for college visits, but much like many things in 2020, campus visits all over the country were canceled in the spring and summer. As colleges prepare and plan to safely welcome their students back to campus for the fall semester, they also are working through plans to welcome visitors to their campuses, and make up for the lost opportunities of summer free time for rising high school juniors and seniors.

Bellarmine is not unique in these plans, but we have worked dutifully to be able to offer our incredible campus visit experience, including getting to know current students, in a safe and hospitable way. So, what can you expect from a college visit in a pandemic?

Starting August 3rd, Bellarmine’s campus will re-open to visitors with a safe and welcoming campus tour. Visit participants will be limited to no more than 3 people per family, and tours will have no more than 2 families total in attendance to ensure the safety and health of all participants.

Upon arrival, you can expect to complete a health screening form and have your temperature checked by your Admissions host to ensure no one on the tour is symptomatic. We will provide masks for all visitors to wear during the tour (though you’re welcome to bring your own from home). All visitors to campus are required to wear a face covering throughout the entire visit.

During the visit, you will meet in a small group with an admission counselor to watch a video about the student experience, before heading out on your tour with a current student who can tell you all about life as a Knight. Once you’ve seen campus, you and your family will take a trolley tour of the Highlands, our beautiful neighborhood filled with shops, parks, and a wide variety of dining options.

Then, we’ll bring you back to campus where an admission counselor will walk your through the application process, the Bellarmine guarantee, and our generous scholarship opportunities, including one you’ll be closer to getting just for having visited! We award a $1,500 Trustee scholarship to all students who complete a campus visit and file FAFSA. After your visit, you are one step closer to a $6,000 discount on your four years at Bellarmine, and that goes for students who prefer to make a virtual information session, too!

In summary, here are all the ways we'll be keeping you safe:

  • Visits will be limited to a total of five families at a time
  • All family groups will be no more than three people total
  • All visitors will complete a health screening when they arrive on campus
  • All visitors, staff and students will be required to wear a mask at all times during their tour

If you still don't feel comfortable with an in-person visit, you can still qualify for our $6,000 Trustee Scholarship by attending our virtual information session. The virtual information session includes a presentation by an admission counselor on life at BU, the Bellarmine guarantee, application process, and our generous scholarship opportunities. And even if you can’t see campus in person, you can check it out and connect with other incoming students online at our Virtual Visit Site.

We are so excited to welcome you to your Bellarmine visit experience! Schedule yours today!
